Why paying slightly more for Vinyl sticker is a smart choice?

Visual communication is one of the oldest and most practiced forms of communication. It is one form of communication that transcends languages and cultures. With visual communication, one can transmit information and ideas using symbols and imagery. It is believed that people rely most on visual communication. A simple example is a direction sign, a CCTV surveillance poster, or how if you’re in a new city with a different language than the one you speak, using maps and familiar signage is the most popular way to find your way.

Stickers have existed as a medium of visual communication for decades. Stickers are a kind of label made using paper, plastic, vinyl, or some other material with adhesive on one side. They can be used for functional and decorative purposes and vary in shapes, size, color, etc. Most stickers made nowadays are highly customisable to suit individual buyer needs and are still a prevalent medium of visual communication as they are relatively easy to make, help convey short simple messages easily, are easy to understand and are fun.

Stickers in today’s day and age are mainly of two kinds, no not the ones you send in WhatsApp😅 but the ones you use physically, namely paper stickers and vinyl stickers.

Vinyl Stickers and paper stickers, now you may be wondering why one should care which sticker one uses, after-all a sticker is a sticker right? Well, that’s where you’re wrong.

Paper stickers as the name goes are made using sheets of paper. They may be used using gloss or matte finish paper as well.

We have all used a paper sticker at least once and while paper stickers are a good choice if you’re on a budget there are still a lot of downsides to using paper stickers.

  • They are not waterproof.
  • They cannot withstand fluctuating weather temperatures and too much sunlight or they might fade.
  • They are extremely vulnerable to wear and tear and absorb moisture very easily, and
  • Worst of all the dreaded paper residue that it leaves behind on surfaces after removing the sticker, that can just take hours and hours to clean up.
Something like this -

Residue left after removing Paper Stickers

Vinyl stickers on the other hand outdo paper stickers on multiple fronts. Vinyl stickers are made of highly durable vinyl - it is much stronger than paper and won't tear easily. One of the biggest advantages of vinyl stickers is that it can be pulled off in one piece leaving no residue unlike paper stickers that always either come out partially or leave behind some substantial patches that become a nightmare to get rid of. Vinyl stickers also withstand very well against water, dust, sunlight and fade only after a prolonged duration of time. They also look more professional and are ideal for long term use and are easy to clean as well.

While paper stickers initially may cost less, they will not be able to bring the same value to your organisation that durable and longer lasting vinyl can. Paper stickers, at the end are still an inferior product compared to Vinyl stickers.
